Feature Improvements of the EcoQube Air to Make a 100% Perfect Greenhouse

This one is a bit more detailed, so here's your table of contents:
- Why we spend so much time, energy and additional cash to make the EcoQube Air even better.
- Water testing electronics and further protecting it.
- Further reinforcements to the electronic connections.
You already know about our failsafe grow tray that makes it nearly impossible for water to flood the Qube, and now we'll tell you the other safety features of the Air.
1. We spent a TON of time everyday living and breathing the EcoQube Air with our incredible engineering + design team. We prototyped as fast as possible so, with every slight iteration, we can look for ways to improve by even just 1%.
Even if we spend more time and money, we believe perfecting the last 1% is crucial to making not just a beautiful but failsafe product.
2. So with one of the final prototypes, we sprinkled water all over the electronics to see what might potentially happen if an accident might've happened.
We purposely powered the EcoQube at just 24V so that it's SUPER SAFE but we've invested a lot into an injection molded BOX + clear extrusion to cover the electronics. We've since gone even further to invest in additional tooling to create an INJECTION molded silicone cover over the slightly exposed edge connector. All this is to protect the electronics in case of a light spill.
3. Also to protect the edge connector from wear and tear, we've decided to invest even more into INJECTION molding the fan compartment covers to add two extruding pegs that ensure the stability of the electrical connections over time. They're placed there to guide the greenhouse and hold it in place, and to make sure that sudden movements don't damage the connector.
We've done everything we can to make the EcoQube Air water safe but, larger spills or extended exposure to water on the electronics may still cause short-circuiting and is not covered under warranty. As you've seen above, we've done literally everything we can to make the EcoQube Air as amazing as possible.
As you can see, we're working hard to make sure that the EcoQube Air is the most energy efficient, beautiful, modern and safest desktop ecosystem. Let us know what you think of these additions!

We've told you about aquaponics. But if you think we've run out of "ponics' already, let me tell you about our latest green technology interest, aeroponics.Â

Like hydroponics, aeroponics is a form of soilless agriculture in which the plants are fed through a nutrient-rich water solution running through the system. Unlike hydroponics though, which pumps running water with nutrients through the system, aeroponic systems aerosolize the nutrient-rich water and introduce it to the suspended plant roots in the form of a mist or fog.

Beyond being a super sweet way of watering your garden, aeroponics has distinct advantages over hydroponic agriculture. While hydroponically grown plants still require a medium for the roots to grow through and the water to be absorbed by, aeroponic systems can skip this step entirely, saving the futuristic farmer time and money. This also allows for aeroponically grown plants to be moved and transplanted very easily, and without subjecting it to transplant shock and compromising growth. Additionally, because hydroponics require liquid water to run through the roots, the systems are flat or sloped by necessity. Converting the water into a mist and delivering it through the air allows for space-saving and sci-fi looking vertical farming.Â

While aeroponics is a natural progression from hydroponics, the method is orders of magnitude more efficient than traditional, in-soil agriculture. According to NASA's own website,
"Aeroponics systems can reduce water usage by 98 percent, fertilizer usage by 60 percent, and pesticide usage by 100 percent, all while maximizing crop yields. Plants grown in the aeroponic systems have also been shown to uptake more minerals and vitamins, making the plants healthier and potentially more nutritious." (Source: NASA.gov)
Though it may seem like something out of Star Trek, this technology is real and in use today. Progressive, green tech companies like Aerofarm are developing large-scale aeroponic systems for agricultural use, systems that will become ever more relevant in a world with increasing populations and decreasing resources. But despite its proven advantages, aeroponic systems remain a futuristic ideal to many. Bulky equipment, difficult to acquire fertilizer-solution, and prohibitive set-up cost deter most smaller farmers and home gardeners. But with ecological technology pushing forward at record rates, we here at ADI look forward to seeing aeroponics in every home someday very soon.

American biologist and author E. O. Wilson remarked that "The great challenge of the twenty-first century is to raise people everywhere to a decent standard of living while preserving as much of the rest of life as possible."
Our environment grows more and more vulnerable as urban growth continues to increase across the world. Many cities experiencing rapid urban growth and industrialization are already experiencing the negative impacts of pollution, such as the smog that strangles the city of Beijing.
Smog covers the Beijing skyline, a sight that is now not uncommon with China's rapidly growing manufacturing sector.

Old habits may be hard to break, but there will never be a better time than now to adopt sustainable design and lifestyles. According to architecture2030, buildings account for almost half of all energy and emissions in the U.S. and three-quarters of its electricity. Therefore, the most effective changes we could make to improve sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint come from within our homes and businesses.
In addition, incorporating more nature and sustainable design in future buildings will ensure that we will be able to enjoy our planet's vast biodiversity for years to come. Sustainable design is already being adopted around the world, with CDL's Tree House in Singapore being a notable example. The 24-story condo building boasts the world's largest vertical garden, which reduces its carbon footprint by filtering pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air.Â
Other sustainable design features such as heat-reducing windows and a green exterior wall that reduces the amount of heat absorbed are projected to save more than $500,000 in energy and water costs annually. Buildings like the Tree House set a sustainability benchmark for new developments in the future, and are a great example of some of the ways that integrating sustainable design and construction can also be cost-efficient.

As the movement for sustainability continues to grow, the importance of innovation in sustainable design is at an all-time high. Conservationists around the world are continually proposing new ideas and solutions to environmental problems that could be integrated into our everyday lives, such as a low-cost water filtration system that uses houseplants to filter toxins from water. It is innovations like these, no matter how small, that could improve the quality of life for millions while reducing the effects of our carbon footprint on this planet.

What is a fertilizer?
A fertilizer is referred to as any material of natural or manufactured origin which when applied to soils or to plant tissues (generally, leaves) supply one or more plant supplements essentials to the development of plants. Fertilizer enhances plant growth.
Innovation in fertilizers began to occur as the chemical needs of developing plants were found. Present day manufactured fertilizers are made mostly out of phosphorous, nitrogen, and potassium mixtures with optional supplements included. The utilization of synthetic fertilizers has altogether enhanced the quality and amount of the nourishment and food available today, in spite of the fact that their long-term use is bantered by environmentalists.
Fertilizers are crucial to growing plants, providing extra nutrients to trees, herbs, vegetables, flowers, and shrubs. There are a few approaches to classifying fertilizers, with the most fundamental being organic or inorganic.

Organic Fertilizer consists of natural wastes such as animal excrement, cow dung, bone meal, bat guano, green manure crops and organic compost, wood ash, peat moss, and compost. These are general soil changes. One favorable advantage of utilizing organic fertilizers as a compost is that it won't poison pets or burn plants, i.e. little or no adverse effect. No specific routine is required before application. The nutrients are released slowly. They possess long-term beneficial outcomes on the soil without any negative effect on groundwater.
Inorganic fertilizers are principally gotten from chemical compounds, either mineral or manufactured. They normally come as pellets, powder, granules or even as a fluid. Most inorganic fertilizers are based on the composition of phosphorous, nitrogen, and potassium. Different chemicals which may be incorporated into inorganic fertilizers include sulfur, calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium.
A. Nitrogen-Based Fertilizer
Nitrogenous fertilizers are fertilizers that contain plant and by-products of the animal. Examples of these by-products are oil cakes, dried blood, and even fish manure.
Nitrogen assumes an indispensable role in the process of protein formation in plants. It bolsters general plant growth and the improvement of health leaves. Nitrogen fertilizers are one of the well-recognized classifications of fertilizers obtained from the mixture of nitrogenous substances.
B. Phosphorus-Based Fertilizer
Phosphorous assists in the development of root and flower. It also helps to increase growth rate. It is used by plants as a means of storing and transferring energy. Anyone paying attention over the last decade has undoubtedly noticed the growing trend in healthy eating.
It's clear that plant-based food is here to stay.
Cabinets filled with saturated fat and gluten are becoming a thing of the past as consumers grow more aware every day that what they put into their bodies matters.
As intentional self-development replaces recreational self-destruction, it’s not en vogue to be unhealthy anymore.
Being eco-friendly isn’t just trendy anymore, it’s becoming a way of life. From the cities to the countrysides, green has become the new black.
Microgreens, once used only by the chefs of high-end restaurants, have become accessible to even the most rustic of chefs.
Previously used only as a garnish, these power-packed minis often dwarf their full-sized counterparts in both flavor and nutrition.
Flavor aficionados from all over the planet are touting these tiny treasures for their endless uses and irresistible aromas. Pea shoots, radish, and sunflower microgreens have quite literally taken the culinary world by storm.
With an inviting appearance and a stunningly flavorful delivery, microgreens can add nutrition and texture to otherwise bland and lifeless food.
As more people begin to treat their food as medicine, microgreens are proving to be some of the most useful and versatile ingredientsaround. With such a vast array of choices, they're making it easier than ever to add a healthy little kick to an otherwise not-so-healthy meal.
Try making that day old pizza look a little fancier by tossing on a few microgreens. Not only will your body thank you, but you can feel a bit less guilty about it, too!
For a quick lunch, even the kids will love, add tomatoes and micro pea shoots to everyday macaroni and cheese. This dish is especially tasty with radish greens, adding a lively taste they're sure to ask for time and time again.
Another simple dish, The Classic Citrus Microgreens Salad is as aesthetically pleasing as it is chock full of nutrients and flavor. This salad may be simple but, it's a taste explosion is nothing short of stellar.
As with any garden-fresh recipe, always wash all ingredients thoroughly, carefully separating all leaves. Hand wash your delicate micros in cold water and rinse using a colander.
Gadgets, such as Salad Spinners, can sometimes damage greens and clog appliances.
The Classic Citrus Microgreens Salad
Combine 10 oz. of Spinach or Wild Salad Greens with a 1/2 cup of feta cheese, a 1/2 cup of walnuts or pecans, a 1/3 cup of fresh red raspberries, a 1/3 cup of mandarin orange segments, and 1/2 cup of sunflower microgreens. Toss with citrus or raspberry vinaigrette. Top with sprouts and enjoy!
Micro Tip:
Try different ingredients and don't be afraid to get a little crazy with your kitchen experimentations. Just remember that less is usually more, and a good rule of thumb when designing any new microgreen dish?
Keep it simple! If microgreen newbies are dining at your table, have a little fun by filling small sample bowls with a variety of different micros giving them the opportunity to get familiar with their favorites first.
Sandwiches offer an excellent canvas for microgreen creativity, and The Garden Fresh Grilled Cheese is a great example!
This delicious take on a childhood classic is one you'll crave.
Try this recipe with turkey or thinly sliced, lean ham for a spectacular spin. Not of the carnivore persuasion?
No problem. Swap meat for an oven-baked portabella mushroom and voila!
Monumentous enjoyment!
The Garden Fresh Grilled Cheese
Over medium heat, add one tablespoon of coconut oil to a skillet. Butter one side each of two slices of bread. Place each slice of bread buttered side down in the skillet. Add one slice of cheese to each slice of bread.
Allowing a few moments for the cheese to begin melting, top one slice of bread and cheese with warmed roast beef. Top with sun-dried tomatoes, radish microgreens, sliced red onion, and a small dollop of spicy dijon mustard.
If you're feeling frisky, try adding a few sprouts for an extra layer of texture.
After approximately three minutes, check the bottom piece of bread by lifting the corner with a spatula.
Once browned, carefully flip the other piece of bread on top of your ingredient tower. Remove from the sandwich from the skillet, cut it in half, and dig in!
Highlighting the complexities of the sandwich, The Very Berry Quinoa Salad pairs perfectly. The layers of flavor in this simple salad create a burst of fruity delight.
The Very Berry Quinoa Salad
Add 1 cup of cooked quinoa to 1/2 a cup of sunflower microgreens. Mix well. In a separate bowl combine 1 cup of sliced strawberries, 1/3 cup of blackberries, 1/3 cup blueberries, and 1/3 cup golden raspberries.
Finely chop 3 tbsp mint leaves and add to microgreen-quinoa mix followed by 1/4 cup maple syrup.
Chill each part separately.
Toss with berry mix and garnish with a fresh mint leaf just before serving.
In conclusion...
Making a conscious choice to be healthy doesn't have to be a chore.
Getting familiar with the many different varieties of microgreens is a great place to start.
Add cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, watercress, and arugula microgreens to your shopping list and watch your romance with these little beauties sprout!
