Clean Air Is More Important Than Ever
over 5 years ago – Thu, Feb 14, 2019 at 08:15:25 AM

As we’re sure you all know by now…

Clean air is important.

Unfortunately, clean air continues to decline as the World Health Organization (WHO) reported last year that 9 out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air.

In fact…

Clean air is SO important that hotels are taking notice, and have begun to offer premium rooms with air-filtration systems designed to reduce allergens and microbes.

Wellness company Delos has designed more than 1,000 hotel rooms globally with wall-mounted air-purification filters throughout 50 Wyndham hotel and resort locations in North America.

And many hotels are doing just the same throughout the world.

As the world becomes increasingly polluted, or until we’re able to get a handle on and reduce pollution levels, we expect that proper air filtration will only become more important.

And that’s why we made sure to design the EcoQube Air to have a three-step HEPA-type filtration process to reduce odor, smog/dirt, and increase oxygenation within the air to ensure you’re living in the best possible environment free of grime.

Want to further improve air quality at home?

Simply do the following and you’ll be breathing cleaner air than 90% of people in your area:

1 - Keep Your Home Clean

Doing this will help ensure that you get rid of any dirt, animal dander, mold, or other contaminants lurking on your home surfaces.

Vacuum regularly, and don’t forget to wash bedding, drapes, or other clothes that tend to attract allergens.

2 - Change Your Air Filters

Keep in mind that while air filters will help get rid of toxins and dirt from the air, they also have shelf lives and their effectiveness decreases over time.

We recommend changing your EcoQube Air air filter once every 3 months for best air quality in your home.

3 - Grow Air Purifying Plants

NASA performed a study on plants to help determine which would be best used to filter air in space and found 10 plants that did exceptionally well to improve air quality.

One of them, the Golden Pothos (or Devil’s Ivy), grows very well in the EcoQube Air, and is our recommendation if you want the best air quality possible.

However, the other plants on the list do just as good of a job, and can also be used to help decorate your house and green-ify it.

What are your thoughts on the air-quality crisis that the world is experiencing?

To Cleaner Air and Beyond!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 20, 2019 at 07:10:40 AM

Heyya Air backers!

We hope you’ve enjoyed the holidays as much as we did, and you’re off to a good start for 2019!

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to keep yourself in good shape and good health…

We applaud you!

But, what if the air around you still hasn’t moved on from the pollutants fireworks may have brought?

You might never know...

Want to clean up your air, and ensure you’re only breathing the freshest air possible?

We’ve got just the answer for you!

It’s known as Boston Fern.

Boston Fern ranked the highest among plants for its ability to eliminate formaldehyde present within the air.

Formaldehyde is a chemical you find almost anywhere - plastic bags, paper towels, napkins, adhesives, gas stoves, floor coverings, and cigarette smoke.

It’s a colorless chemical with strong odor and with prolonged exposure, can be detrimental to human health causing problems such as development of nose cancer, damage to lining of the nose and throat, or causing irritation and itching.

Luckily, Boston Fern has you covered!

This plant grows up to four feet tall, and can spread as wide as five feet.

If you want something to ornament your veranda or your porch, the Boston Fern can be displayed as a potted hanging plant with leaves dangling down. Alternatively, it can also be placed in your living room. Basically, any cool environment with bright sunlight (but not direct sunlight) will allow it to thrive.

Some maintenance tips:

  • Keep the soil a little bit moist
  • Mist the roots with warm water to keep the leaves from turning brown from lack of moisture
  • Combat any insects by spraying the plant with warm, soapy water

Want to learn about more plants that can help get rid of cigarette smoke, and other harmful pollutants you may find indoors?

It is a must for you to keep the soil a little bit moist. Mist the roots with warm water as the plant’s leaves usually turn brown if they did not receive adequate moisture. The plant is a little prone to insect infestation, but you can combat them through  spraying the plant with warm soapy water. Some of the usual insects that inhabit the plant  are spider mites and whiteflies.

Be sure to watch out for the root ball from drying out. If the Boston Fern is starting to create foliages, weekly feeding of diluted fertilizer can help them grow healthily. Humus-rich soil can adequately support the plant’s requirements.

To a healthier you this 2019,

CK from EcoQube

Is Your Office Building “Sick”?
over 5 years ago – Sun, Dec 23, 2018 at 06:45:59 PM

Hey Air backers!

'Tis the most wonderful time of the yeeear!

You're probably planning to embrace the New Year, New Me season aka looking to get a new hairstyle, a new hobby, maybe find a new favorite YouTuber, or just a general change in your lifestyle.

But would you be willing to change your job if you were feeling unhealthy in your workplace?

Hmmm. Maybe it’s time to.

Sick Building Syndrome is a name given to a condition that collectively describes any enclosed space with poor indoor air quality, leading to numerous immuno-respiratory issues.

The reason behind this anomaly is still unknown, even today. If around 20% of your fellow employees have been having recurring health issues hampering their productivity, your building might be one of these "sick buildings".

According to a study published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, poor indoor air breathability isn't limited to 50+ year-old buildings with moldy smell and dusty carpets. In fact, 30% of newly-erected and refurbished buildings are labeled as being "sick".

Apart from SBS affecting your immuno-respiratory system, it can also create an impact on your skin and your neurological health. It starts manifesting through a cold or flu, and gradually can be seen through other health issues.

But can plants alleviate the impact of sick building syndrome?

One study entitled "Healthy Workplaces: The Effects of Nature Contact at Work on Employee Stress and Health" showed how adding a form of greenery to workplaces could have positive returns, both physiologically and psychologically. This study applies to remote workers too. It concludes that"wellness by design" could be implemented through contact with nature.

The Human Spaces report also helped show how plants could help overall wellness of office workers. Studying 7,600 offices across 16 countries, the study found that 58% of workers have no live plants placed in their workplaces.

People that are lucky enough to have live plants in their office space were reported to have a 16% higher wellbeing rate and 6% higher productivity score than those who didn't.

Wanna learn more about what plant-based air filters can do to minimize the health hazards brought by the Sick Building Syndrome?

We’ve put together a comprehensive article with more information found here!

That’s all folks! We hope you all have had the best year this year, and can’t wait to get started on an even better one with you this coming 2019!

Cheers!

Beating The Everyday Lead
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Nov 30, 2018 at 07:49:26 AM

Hey EcoQube Air backers!

Anyone live in a home that’s been around for a little while now?

If you are living in a home built in the 70's - there might be an eenie bitty thing you are unaware of...

And that's lead that's present in your house paint.

Apart from paint present in old houses, lead can be found in household dust, toys, cosmetics, and batteries. This type of metal can also be present in your clothes if you are working in the auto repair, battery, painting, and construction industries.

If you are often feeling fatigued, irritable, constipated or having a hard time to focus - you might be experiencing everyday exposure to lead. Sluggish development and poor learning ability can be observable in children exposed to lead.

So, how serious can lead exposure be?

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that about 143,000 deaths every year resulted from lead poisoning with lead paint being their major contributor.

Prolonged exposure to lead paint can damage the brain and central nervous systems. This can cause coma, violent convulsions, impaired cognitive ability, and even death. Children exposed to lead on a daily basis can have irreversible poor brain development, reduced IQ and anti-social behavior.

If you are unsure if the lead is present in your house paint, lead paint abatement experts can help by reducing lead levels in your home. Air filters can also help the situation by trapping lead particles floating through the air.

The reason?

When using HEPA type air filters, you’ll find that particulates .3 microns or larger in size will be effectively removed from the air. Lead particulates average 2 microns in size meaning that most lead particles can be filtered thus cleansing your air, and protecting the health of you and loved ones.

If you want to breathe cleaner and safer air, it's time to consider adding activated carbon, HEPA type air filters into your home, or by turning on your EcoQube Air’s fans to circulate filtered air throughout your home!

Third-Hand Smoke Residue - An Unseen Enemy
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Nov 01, 2018 at 10:48:15 PM

Hey EcoQube Air Backers!

If you are living in a room-challenged apartment with old rugs and carpets, you might be battling the unseen and unknown.

Even if your home has been refurbished or repainted, most homes where cigarette smokers once lived can still have cigarette toxins left behind even if months have passed since the occupants vacated the space.

Professor Georg E. Matt, a psychology professor from San Diego State University, examined the residences of smokers after they left and found some disturbing evidence showing potentially harmful effects of third-hand smoke.

Matt examined the homes of 100 smokers and 50 non-smokers before they moved out of the residences. The new occupants, all non-smokers were recruited and were analyzed for traces of nicotine.

Dust and surfaces exhibited a higher contamination level in former smokers' homes than those of non-smokers. The findings from Matt's study suggests that THS (Thirdhand-smoke) accumulates inside a smoker's residence and remains persistent for up to 2 months.

This THS remains suspended within the residence even after intensive cleaning and preparation for the new occupants. And many speculate that THS can be detrimental to your health and that of your pets.

So how can you get rid of this compound for good?

As simple and as unbelievable as it seems, plants offer a great solution to combat this problem.

Plants emit water vapor that sucks in carbon dioxide and toxins to help reduce THS leftovers while simultaneously outputting oxygen necessary for humans to breathe.

In short, plants act as a filter that helps combat the toxins present in the air. This helps reduce the amount of painstaking effort we must undergo to cleanse the air.

Want to know what plants can help you best clean the air?

Read on here!

Breathe clean,
