TESTING THE LUX OF THE ECOQUBE AIR

Hello again!
We're taking questions about the EcoQube Air and we will be answering them on video! Email or message us your questions and we'll answer them.
We're still hard at work adding and making improvements to the EcoQube Air, and we want to fill you in on everything we've been working on.
Note: There is a hole at the top of the LED plate because we were testing different air outputs. We've since redesigned that aspect but the LEDs are the same!
Today we tested the LUX output of the the newest prototype LED array. LUX is a unit of measurement for light output and can be detected with a LUX meter, like so.

There are many factors to consider, including the different outputs of the White Light Grow LEDs and the output of the Colored RGB LEDs. And because the lights designed to help both plants and humans, we needed to test the frequency of the lights as well, to make sure they're not harmful to human eyes, like you might experience with older fluorescent lights.

Our broad range spectrum of LED Grow Lights (1800K, 3000K, 5000K, 6500K, 8000K, 10,000K and 350nm) give off many different wavelengths to accommodate growth in many, many different types of plants.

Exciting news!
We’re always working on improving our products at ADI, and we wanted to show you what we’ve been up to! If you’ve been keeping up with our updates, you’ll know that our team recently visited our manufacturing partners to get the EcoQube Air tooling and manufacturing process set up. While we were there, we experimented with some changes to the original design of our EcoQube Air. These changes included the four clear walls, aluminum top, and vertical LED strip that we set as our stretch goals. If you didn't catch that update, check it out HERE

350K - Aluminum top included and aluminum insert available
We're constantly looking for a new way to make the EcoQube Air sturdier, more beautiful, and even more environmentally friendly. After spending EVERY day of the past week with our manufacturing team going through every single detail from the angles to colors, to finishes, we've found a way to make the EcoQube Air even better. And an additional supplier that specializes specifically in making beautiful aluminum parts.
This is a prototype design for the the top of the EcoQube Air made from anodized and brushed aluminum. We were amazed when we saw the quality and thought it would look amazing on top of the Air. The sturdy anodized aluminum is resistant to corrosion and will not bow from the moisture of the EcoQube Air. This makes it a very functional and beautiful addition to the Air.
We want to know and be involved in every last detail of the EcoQube Air, so we took a trip to the anodization factory to see the process first hand.

The process of anodization is fascinating. First the aluminium is placed in vats of electrolytic solutions and acid. By introducing a current to the solution, hydrogen and oxygen are released from the metal and form a micro-porous aluminum oxide film on its surface. The process seems simple but takes extremely skilled professionals to carry out. We learned they keep careful watch over numerous factors, like the ratio of acid to electrolytic solution, amount of current run through the solution, the temperature of the solution, and countless other considerations.
Not only does this film reinforce the metal, making it stronger, it also creates a barrier between it and the elements, protecting it from damage and corrosion. Moreover, the micro-pores in the film create the perfect texture to introduce metallic dyes to, letting us change the color of the aluminum.
These are just a few of the hundreds of colors available
But best of all, andonizing is the most environmentally friendly metal finishing process. Beyond the fact that aluminum is one of the most available and recyclable materials on the planet, the anodizing process is extremely environmentally friendly. "Integral color anodizing produces no VOCs, Heavy Metals, or Halogens". What's more, the anodization process is "recycle-neutral," meaning the anodized aluminum is fully recyclable. As a company in the business of sustainable design, we take these types of considerations very seriously before doing business with a partner and we'd be proud to support another such environmentally conscious business.
In a previous update, we mentioned that we would be including an acrylic background insert, but after being so impressed with anodized aluminum, we decided an aluminum backdrop insert would be even better. And with the anodizing process, the aluminum backdrop can be dyed any color or even have images printed on it. Imagine a beachside sunset or a sprawling mountain range in the back of your EcoQube Air.
Because of the processes and costs involved in creating these aluminum additions, we will need to order a certain amount to make it in order to be able to do this. At $350K in sales we would be able to put in a big enough order, so let's meet that goal!

HYDROPONICALLY GROWN PLANTS

Hello again!
While working closely with our manufacturing partners here we expected to talk and learn more about the design process of the EcoQube C and EcoQube Air, but what we didn't expect was to learn so much about the life that grows within them.

Jasmine, the owner of the factory, our partner, and amateur botanist, displayed for us a variety of plants that she grew hydroponically. We were excited to learn that most all of the plants she showed us make great candidates for use in the EcoQube C and inside the EcoQube Air. Note: While some of these were planted and grew in the EcoQube C, like the Devil's Ivy, others, like the Emerald Beauty, were spliced in after maturing.
These plants are growing hydroponically, as opposed to aquaponically, because these prototype EcoQube’s contain no fish
The first plant we saw is called Epipremnum Aureum, or Devil's Ivy.
Jasmine planted this one right in the EcoQube C they have in the factory, and look how well it grew, just look at the roots!
The Devil's Ivy pant is great for both the EcoQube C and the EcoQube Air. It's commonly kept as a house plant because of how easy it is to grow and for it's ability to filter formaldehyde in the air. In an aquarium like the EcoQube C, it has the added benefit of filtering out nitrates from fish waste and being completely non-toxic to aquatic life.
Next Jasmin showed us the Emerald Beauty, or Chinese Evergreen.
This is the biggest plant we've seen in the EcoQube and one of the coolest too. As an aglaonema, its long, textured leaves are great for filtering the air in a room, making it a perfect plant to grow in the EcoQube Air.
Next we saw the Chlorophytum Comosum, the Spider Plant.
This plant is another popular house plant the world over because of how hardy and easy to grow it is. The Spider Plant will thrive in a wide range of temperatures and humidities meaning it could be grown along with virtually any other plant in the EcoQube Air. The Spider Plant is also popular for its ability to efficiently filter formaldehydes out of the air.
My personal favorite was the Hydrocotyle Vulgaris, carrying the unfortunate common name, Marsh Pennywort, though I prefer the Gold Coin Grass .
Native to marshes and wetlands, this plant is an ideal choice for the EcoQube C. It's root system is as dense and far reaching as the stems, allowing it to pull great amounts of nitrates and fish waste from the water. Jasmine informed us that this plant is commonly used in Chinese herbal medicines or blended and used in a refreshing, smoothie-like drink.
The last plant Jasmin showed us was this Peperomia plant.
The peperomias are a compact type of plant, making them ideal for use both in the EcoQube C and the EcoQube Air. These two plants were cuttings from a larger plant and spliced into the grow media of the EcoQube C, and have adapted beautifully. In case you're wondering, the Chinese text (with the last character cut out) in the background of the photo reads: Responsibility is more important than ability.
While it's thick. fleshy leaves indicate that it is of the Peperomia genus, we were unfortunately unable to identify its species! If you think you can help us out with identifying this one, please leave your comment down below!
